    Breastfeeding during Ramadan

    June 1, 2017 /

Islam gives great importance to breastfeeding. It is considered a right of the child to be breastfed.  Allah says in the Holy Qur’an. “Mothers may breastfeed their children two complete years for whoever wishes to complete the nursing (period). Upon the father is the mother’s provision and their clothing according to what is acceptable…” (2:233) Without going into the legal discussion, during Ramadan, breastfeeding mothers may or may not fast depending on their health and health of the baby. For those breastfeeding mothers who are fasting here are a few tips to make this month easier. Insha’Allah 1. Hydrate yourself. Drink lots of water in between Ifthar and Suhoor rather…

7 tips for moms to improve their Ramadan experience + FREE Ramadan Planner

    May 22, 2017 /

Ramadan after becoming a mother is very different – a version of Ramadan 2.0 with its own unique situations and obligation. Some days go great with everything done on time, the set number of pages recited from the Holy Qurán while the kids eat their food with no tantrums and no untoward incidents. Well, some days nothing goes as per plan and you just want to hit the bed at the earliest possible time. Mothers are an expert in handling nights of broken sleep but during Ramadan you are a broken-sleep-Ninja who survives on 2 hours sleep! I have already written about how Ramadan and motherhood can be balanced without…

An Oasis land, The land where the Beloved lies, under the Green Dome. The land where a third of revelation gushed forth. The land which imbues an aura of serenity and calm. The land which gives a sense of peace to the believer. The land which is a piece of every believer’s heart. The land which has a portion of Jannah. The land which openly accepted the believers when they were tortured by the Quraysh. The land of Ansar – the generous lot. The land under which is buried the Prophet’s father – Abdullah. The land under which lies the thousands of Sahaba, in Baqii. The land protected from…

    Laylathul Qadr – A poem

    July 3, 2016 /

Ramadan 28, 1437. July 3, 2016 Laylathul Qadr As the angels come in groups of seventy thousand each, with whispers of ‘Peace’ to the believers standing in remembrance of their Lord… Peace shall fill this transient earthly abode until the break of dawn… On a night better than a thousand months… On a night, 1400 years ago, The Book, to lead mankind from darkness to light was revealed… On a night, the Mercy to Mankind (PBUH), was granted the honor of the seal of prophet hood… On a night, when people who submit , ask forgiveness from The One they submit to.

Role of parents in inculcating Deen in children

    June 22, 2016 /

17th Ramadan 1437. 22 June, 2016 Role of a parent. It was October of 2006. My first Ramadan away home. Just two months since I joined college. I was the only one in my class who was fasting. Most of my friends didn’t know what Ramadan was. Completely different from 18 Ramadans before. No one to wake me up for Suhoor. No ifthar.  No taraweeh at the masjid. For the entire month I ate bread and jam for Suhoor and bread and jam and Maggi for Ifthar. Normal dinner – Chappathi with some daal curry- for night-time. Yet, I survived it. Never did I think of missing any fast unnecessarily…

    Ramadan memories – 2

    June 7, 2016 /

2 Ramadan 1437, June 7th 2016 (Insha’Allah planning to do a small write – up for everyday of Ramadan. More as a memoir for my little one) My baby is trying to stand by holding onto the furniture or stool or anything she gets for her height. Today she tried to stand using the filled Al Wataniya water can. Unfortunately, her hands slipped and she fell down. Tears. Lots if tears. Cuddling, nursing and more cuddling again, she was back to her healthy happy self. Alhamdulilah 10 minutes later, she was back on the floor, happily crawling and trying to stand again. SubhanaAllah As an infant, failure never demotivate us.…

    Ramadan memories

    June 6, 2016 /

1st day of Ramadan 1437 – June 6th, 2016 In every Malabar household, Pathiri is the staple diet for Ramadan. Not making pathiri for Ramadan is like having an incomplete  ifthar! Pathiri making is a laborious,  technique sensitive process. The first part is making the dough. Boil hot water and slowly add in the rice powder to the boiling water and make sure all the powder is wet. First mix with the wooden spatula. Flame off after 10 seconds. While the dough is warm still, knead it with hand well in one single roll. Make small rolls with dough and then flatten each roll with a rolling pin or a…
