Your baby spikes up a fever of 39°C at 1 AM in the night. What do you do?
Voila! Pediatric emergencies to the rescue.
Qatar is well endowed with Pediatric Emergency Centres in almost all the corners.
The main Pediatric Emergency is located at Al-Sadd. Quite busy but well equipped. Easily accessible for people in Doha area.
For people in Mesaieed and Wakrah, there is Wakrah PEC located in the Wakrah Hospital. Go to the Emergency Gate, and go up the bridge. The first door is adult emergency and go a little further, there is the pediatric emergency door.
Procedure at Wakrah PEC –
Go to the receptionist for token. Show baby book.
Register at the counter. Keep baby book and baby hamad card handy.
Go in for triage. Baby’s weight, temperature and the Oxygen level in blood will be checked by a nurse.
Then will be directed to the waiting area from where you will be called once your turn comes up.
The waiting period lasted from 5 mins to 1/2 hour mostly.
For people up North in Al Kharatiyat, Al Kheesa, Umm Salal etc there is a lesser know Al Dayeen Pediatric Emergency located in Al dayeen on the Al khor road off from the Shamal road. Quite empty and extremely nice. The procedure is exactly same as above. (Except here rectal temperature of baby was taken instead of taking temperature in the axillary area) There were two doctors on duty while we went. My experience was overall excellent .
PEC is located just adjacent to the Al Daayeen Health Centre
(PS : A board outside the PEC stated that all wounds, burns, fractures, trauma cases etc will be treated only in Al khor hospital )

Other PEC are located at Al Rayyan, Airport Road and in Shamal.
