Review : Kamillah the Butterfly
The minute I started reading this book, the first thought that crossed my mind was – ‘A Muslim version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ Yay. Though the initial two pages of the book – caterpillar eating everything in sight – is similar, rest of the story, thoughts, concepts and illustrations are very different and unique to this book.
It talks about a caterpillar who is going through an immense change and is quite worried about all the alterations happening to her. She then asked her friend Bilqis why is it happening and Bilqis gives a brilliant reply – ‘All in good time, my friend. All in good time’ teaching us to epitomise Sabr in everyday life.
The book has bold, bright and beautiful illustrations thus enticing it’s very young readers. I have often noticed my 2 year-old gravitating towards books that are well-illustrated. This book is no exception.
Kamillah the Butterfly teaches the following lessons to its young readers :
- The life cycle of a butterfly.
- During difficulties, adversities and changes, we grow and strengthen ourselves. There is always goodness at the end of any trial.
- Victory is never overnight. It takes times for any success or change.
- To inculcate ‘Sabr’ in our everyday life and activities.
- Allah has made all of us in different and unique ways. There is beauty in all the differences amongst people.
Keeping up with this book’s theme, we can talk to our children about the following two verses from the Holy Qur’an which talks about differences amongst people.
As the Muslim Children’s book scene grows, I am extremely excited to know my child is growing up in a world where she can read books with characters and authors having names similar to her.
Kudos to the Author for a wonderful and interesting book. Wishing her all the best.

Beautiful book review as usual. You have a special ability to lure the readers into grabbing one as soon as they finish reading the review. Though the book is of children’s book, from the lessons enumerated here, I feel like buying one for me LOL. And this is a great theme for a children’s book. Thanks for sharing.
