Ebooks

E-books

My sister and brother in law gifted me with a Samsung Note 10.1 a few months back. Thus started my love affair with eBooks.

I used to read eBooks on my laptop or on the small N900 screen earlier, but due to the cumbersome nature either of holding the laptop or due to strain of peering into the small screen of N900, I could read only one book at a time, that too with frequent breaks. So it was not a common affair.

With the tablet, the screen is quite comfortable for reading and since there was a Note cover too, I can place the tab in any way that I want to. Reading became infinitely easier. Alhamdulilah.

I was a staunch lover of normal hardback cover books earlier. I love the smell of new books. I like to see the pages of the books turning yellow with time. I usually write my name and the month/year/place from where I bought the book, on the first page. I love collecting books, keeping it in a stack on the shelf and looking at it from time to time!

With eBooks, I cannot have this close physical relationship. It is just yet another thing that you read on the screen. Yet the ease of procuring eBooks made me change my mind. Along with it, I am currently in the nomadic phase of life, hence collecting and storing books becomes a difficult task. Already, half my books are in Doha and the rest half in Kerala.

Technology,  how easy you make it for us, to pursue whatever hobby is it that we have!

Alhamdulilah.

  1. I, too, love the smell and feel of a new book and have so far avoided the ebooks. But my daughter gave me a reader for Xmas and I guess I should get it set up to see how it works.

  2. I claim not to be a big fan of reading from a screen but then I spend hours reading online. So yeah it is addictive. But hardcovers are irreplaceable.
